<< LIVE ARCHIVES: HAUT [RESIDENCY] marked the first of LIVE ARCHIVES’ new residency events. Together, with Haut, we presented an ‘off space’ project on the theme of desire.
An established term in the European scene, an off space is a project space outside the commercial establishment of the creative industries. As an alternative to normative cultural consumption and artistic practice, an off space is a place where creative minds can exist, create and show across disciplines and outside the structure of an established scene. The residency engaged with the environment of London; conscious of what this environment was saying, and how to reflect back into it. In one of the most commercialised, systematised cities in the world, we sacrifice our individuality for opportunities and acceptance. It is increasingly impossible for any kind of creative community to exist outside the established order. As a response, the off space was an opportunity to appreciate flexibility and impermanence and show work in an installation that aimed to creatively push the boundaries of traditional display and retail.
